Another day another blog.
yesterday i never had time to post since i had to run around with AJ and then i headed off to the hot springs with some of the team, which was a great time.we got to sample quite a variety of traditional Taiwanese food. . prior to i did catch Marcos first match before taking off. Macro ended up taking silver i should of stuck around and shot his other matchs!
So more on last night. Claire took us out to a hot spring resort kinda deal but prior to we did alittle shopping i picked up a souvenir for someone just another half dozen people to go.. i really need to do some shopping but i'm really not a shopper. maybe tomorrow. i plan to be in bed early tonight. I can't remember exactly
what all the dishes were. Claire is gonna help me tag everything on facebook after everything is all said and done. the hot spings was alright.. just a tub of hot mineral water the cockroach that flew in and hung out with us was kinda interesting kinda disgusting but oh well he never killed anyone, i was really hoping the big moths that were flying around would land so i could get a photo sadly all they did was dart in and out of the light.

i seem to have gotten a a little behind on my blogging so time to play catch up.
I haven't really been doing much sightseeing(a little though!keep reading) which has been unfortunate but i have been getting some nice shots of swimming even if our area does suck for taking photos.

today i went and shot some swimming again and to bring Jesse back to Tai Pei but apparently i'm not a ranking official/coach so i couldn't chaperon him back which was unfortunate hopefully he gets out tomorrow though. Beyond that i didn't get to shoot anything else today so i edited some photos and went to a museum that was just down the road wasn't all that interesting had a few exhibits on the ancestral tribes of Taiwan and another on the ecosystem but for the most part it was all it mandarin so i wouldn't read anything. I did pick up a few souvenirs and a old map of Taiwan in the gift shop and took some more photos outside since it was sort of a park area as well. thats all for now, suppose to be going out with Richard tonight to take some photos of the night market i'll see if he shows up!

Went and shot cycling today. our rider Simon took 4th Jean-marc sadly never made it through qualifying but his time wasn't far off. here's a handful of shots. Tomorrow i get to rise at 6 again and shoot BV and then somehow make it all the way over to swimming while Richard shoots Taekwondo... not really sure how this is suppose to work seeing as Swimming is in a completely different venue? no ones telling me anything so i'll find out tomorrow i guess.

Media Day:
I got to ride in a Taipei cab yesterday for the first time...needless to say I won't be doing it again if it can be helped. Started off well enough we were going to the Media event that was suppose to be held the hotel down from us. When we got there however we were informed by some Japanese media people that it had moved to another place. That was fine we'd just grab a taxi there, BIG mistake. First we accidentally nick the cab from another party but they didn't mind, maybe they knew something we never. Anyway we start out and already the taxi is weaving in and out of traffic beeping her horn and basically driving like a maniac. After about 15 minutes of driving around I start wondering if she knows where she's going or taking us for a ride since she seems to circle back on herself and head down another street. After another 5 she pulls the car off the road leaving the meter running and tries to get directions to the place. Turns out she didn't have a sweet clue where we we had to do. Liz the interpreter with us happened to have a map and we eventually got to the stadium which still wasn't where we wanted to go but the lady pulled off, fet up we got out and attempted to walk away without paying..after all we never got where we were going.. I didn't think that would go over well and waited for the lady for come chase us down. Sure enough out she jumps shouting “money money” One of the arena security happens to be there so we flag him over. After a lot of talking and the kind help of a stranger we get everything figured out and make it to the media event where there is a large debate over what/who/how things were going to be streamed online. Sadly no photos from the escapade .
Romp with Marc, janice and genevieve:
I Happened to run into Marc and Genevieve while at breakfast and we all decided to head out to check out the town...which reminds me Genevieve stole me my map like she said she would I must get that back :P... Marc is a character to say the least I have about 3 dozen photos of just him being the biggest tourist in the world and scaring little kids. We Popped into the the New York New York shopping mall and poked around everything was to expensive but me and marc did have fun trying to get the Nokia people to unlock my phone so I could use the sim card I got, Alas the could not though.. not without taking it into the shop and even then it would have been a maybe. I did learn that Google Translator is pretty good as we communicated with all the Nokia tech people on it while we were in the store which was a great idea on Marcs part. Janice joined us there shortly after surviving the metro all by her lonesome :P From there we went to a temple which I would be able to name if I had my map but SOMEONE never gave it back! Lots of photos from there which will be up tomorrow most likely. Along the way we tried to find some of those cone hat things and failed... and I got a stamp with my initials carved.. BUT silly me I forgot to mirror image them so I got a backwards stamp.

Yesterday was a grand ol time. Never had anything to do so I went for a wander to see if I could find a piece for my camera I accidentally left home sadly though its apparently a part that can only be ordered since its just a little plug that goes underneath. Its not a huge deal really since i'm mostly going to be shooting with my grip on which is what the socket is used for but when i'm out wandering the town I would of liked to have it. What was interesting about yesterday was a lot of the shops I passed were closed turns out it was the annual ghost festival Ghost Festival which involves(from wiki) - Activities during the month would include preparing ritualistic food offerings, burning incense, and burning joss paper, a papier-mache form of material items such as clothes, gold and other fine goods for the visiting spirits of the ancestors - I thought it was pretty neat.. i'll know more once I chat with a couchsurfing friend I msged to have coffee with sometime :). needless to say I never got the part I did get some sun and figure out a little more lay of the land.
The rest of yesterday was spent hanging out with the medical team and beach volleyball crowd and much hilarity ensued (refer to photos). BV is about a hour outside of Taipei so it was a nice jaunt out.. when we got there I was kinda surprised at the condition of the beach.. apparently Taiwan gets a lot of wood washed up on there shores so they had some heavy equipment down there moving piles of logs.. I have no idea if they plan to have it all cleaned up by the time volleyball starts I guess we'll see.

After practice I had originally thought i'd be heading back to the hotel to hang out out Richard until today when we'd get out press passes and things for the games but our lovely tour guides Michelle and Sandy( who Dolphin picked on relentlessly , in good humor though) managed to get me in and up with the Canadian delegation sadly I never had any spare cards with me I still got a lot of great shots though even without my good lens. Anyway heres the shots enjoy!

Sorry for this one being late was suppose to post it yesterday but i lent my laptop to a friend
Finally touched down in taipei and I got to say it was quite the trip from. In total it took us 19 hours to get from montreal there but it wasn't an enjoyable flight. I was stuck in the center isle like a sardine with no leg room, had a migraine but eventually I made it. Food on flight wasn't the greatest but I didn't expect it to be all in all Its making me dread my trip from taipei – van-toronto-st johns in one shot!

Anyway though we got to Taipei and I snapped a bunch of shots along the way and of the athletes everyone was pretty plane weary so we never did much photo taking just here and there. The registration was held up due to some officials not being there so that took a little longer then anticipated, and mine and few others bags were left on the bus, enough of the stuff that went wrong or slow now for taipei
The City is beautiful!! I could spend hours on a single street shooting! There is such a mix of old and new of freshly painted and peeling its all so mesmerizing and the amount to stores just around the hotel is mind boggling some are just little slits in the wall. Richard and I, the other photographer, took a romp out to find the camera street . It was pretty hard to miss all plastered with nikon,canon and sony labels. Every store had just about everything you could be looking for. Besides the 300mm 2.8 canon lens that Richard was hoping to pick up cheap. He should of known better to try and pick it up through an official store that it wouldn't be much of a price difference. I hoping the underground market will have some better deals on the few accessories i'm looking for. Also Taipei apparently likes to have downpours so I should really pick up an umbrella for my stay.
I haven't sampled the local food yet. Mostly cause I dunno where to go I did however get some subway last night.. which I probably shouldn't of since the lettuce was likely washed in tap water but i'm not dead yet so I guess I lucked out. Complimentary breakfast is in an hour or so gonna enjoy that before I figure out what i'm gonna do for the rest of the day since our media meeting is on the 4th and we haven't been given bus passes or anything yet so I can't travel with the athletes even if I wanted to.
New things seen today/yesterday : palm trees, Buddhist monk begging(well not begging but sitting there with a bowl meditating) and REAL Oriental cooked food

Deaf Olympics Aug 30th
So today was a fun day! I was hanging out with the swim team for most of the day and editing for the rest. This mornings practice was at 8 at the old Montreal Olympic stadium. which still impressed me even though i was there the day before with Christy(photos of that romp to be added after my flight to Tai-pei i'm sure I'll have time to edit them on a 13 hour plane ride Here is one though i had to show my dad cause he wanted to see christy http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f353/jtreid/DSC_2714.jpg :P sorry christy) poking around the bio-dome but to actually stand in the arena where gold medals were won was pretty inspiring and just made me think of what an actual honor it is to shoot the deaf Olympics in Taiwan, Perhaps in a few years I'll be shooting for the Olympics and capturing the next Michael Phelps? WHO KNOWS just gotta keep shooting!

Shots from the outdoor pool - Well seeing as my Taekwondo shoot never happened AGAIN( due to a injury) i decided to join the swimmers again since i wanted to get 2 sets with each sport. the only one i'm not sure i can get in is a second bowling one due to ride issues fingers crossed i do!

Deaf Olympics Aug 27-29th - Halifax montreal
Um i'll fix the photos later.. not sure hour to make thumbs and stuff for em now.
Aug-27
So i made it to Halifax without a hitch! First flight of my life down with no pressure problems or flight issues what so ever, which is exactly what everyone said but one never knows. turbulence was minimal( just like being in a car on a windy day). My trip through the airport was fun though, i left my laptop in the security bin >.< a nice security guard came and got me before i was on the plane and i helped a old lady find her gate. Now i have a 3 hour wait for a half hour flight to montreal. Gonna break out my camera now and snap a few around the airport! post em before i take off
Made it safe and sound to montreal. gonna break out the camera and see what i can see. first stop is Harvey's though lets see if there chow is any good

This are pretty busy over here with the training of the athletes but the gap in communication is a little frustrating given that right now i should be shooting the Taekwondo training but they've left me behind for the second time because they keep meeting earlier in a different location then they tell me before they leave and then txt asking where i am. very annoying. Montreal is amazing though i was out with a friend last night exploring the city. i haven't had a chance to romp around with my camera yet but this afternoon we have plans to check out the bio-dome and Notre-dame as well as few other cool places she has in mind, like abandon factories
i should get some cool shots. Here's a couple shots from the bowling practice i made it too. time for another hours sleep!
